Interior Construction
Door Pivot
I bought a wheel bearing from an RC hobby store ($3) to use as a pivot for the door since I wasn't too keen on the way it fit (credit for the idea goes to FLUKE - thanks Troy). The bearing is 15mm outside diameter, a little smaller than the hole provided in the top of the pod. I cut down the short post on the top of the door so that it's flush, then drilled a hole in it. The whole thing will be covered by the cap in the end. Below are 2 more shots showing just the bearing on the top of the door. I just have a nut on the other side holding it on. I'll probably glue the threads once it's in permanently. There is rough assembly drawing below that shows the parts.
I've glued in a strip of styrene into the back half of the body shell and will eventually epoxy the bearing into place. The bolt will come off and allow me to remove the door for painting. The washer isn't strictly necessary if you want to have a bit of friction on the door so it doesn't flop open when holding it. I am looking at making a very thin plastic washer here rather than use a metal one.
I'll shoot the base of the door on the next update since I am building up the floor of the pod and attaching the interior walls in my next steps.
